Major milestone for redevelopment of the Eye and Ear

October 10, 2013

The Eye and Ear is pleased to announce that Hansen Yuncken has been formally appointed as the Construction Manager for the redevelopment of the Eye and Ear.

Acting CEO, Jenni Gratton-Vaughan said that the announcement is a significant milestone for the hospital.

“Hansen Yuncken are highly experienced in their field and have completed similar redevelopment projects at the Prince of Wales Hospital and Concord Hospital in Sydney, and Launceston General Hospital,” Ms Gratton-Vaughan said.

“The Construction Manager will be responsible for the entire five-year project, including all construction, site logistics, sub-contracting and procurement.

“The redevelopment team will work closely with Hansen Yuncken as they prepare to begin work on site shortly.”

The Minister for Health David Davis made the official announcement today.

“The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital is an important component of our health system, delivering more than half of Victoria’s public general ear surgery and 90 per cent of the State’s specialist eye surgery,” Mr Davis said.

“In the year of the hospital’s 150th birthday, this project will set it up for a long and productive future.”

The work is expected to be completed in late 2017.
