External support agencies

There are many agencies that can provide specific information or support for people with cochlear implant or hearing related questions. Please refer to the clinic information notice board or ask our staff for a listing of agencies, including a list of private Speech Pathologists.

Travelling with a cochlear implant

Recipients intending on travelling, please refer to ‘See the world your way’ pamphlet, as part of your Cochlear Ltd documentation pack for specific information.

Assistive Listening Devices

Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) are accessories that can be used in conjunction with your sound processor to maximize access to the sounds you want to hear. Most ALDs work by delivering the important sounds (such as speech) directly to the sound processor, minimising or blocking out interfering background noise.

Cochlear Ltd has produced a range of ALDs for use with their sound processors. The range includes a lapel microphone, TV/hi-fi cable and a personal audio cable. Information about these devices can be found in your sound processor’s User Manual or ask your clinician.

A number of ALDs can be found on the market for use with cochlear implants, hearing aids or independently. Information, demonstration and sales of devices such as TTY telephones, television caption decoders, alerting systems etc, can be obtained from:
