Donor profile: Jules McLean

June 12, 2015

Jules McLean’s father, the late Mr Douglas McLean, owned a pub in Korumburra in South Gippsland and loved to play golf. In 2013, Douglas sadly passed away at the age of 97. Douglas had Glaucoma and was treated by Dr Julian Rait at the Eye and Ear more than 25 years ago. Ever since, Douglas was a generous donor to the Eye and Ear.

Jules comes from what she calls, “a community background amongst people who have values and ethics and give what they can in either time or money to support others”. Jules is actively involved in various charitable organisations including Fareshare, St Vincent de Paul and Anglicare. She volunteers with Melbourne Women’s Fund Giving Circle, where she is a founding member and part of their Grants Committee. After her father
passed away, she decided she wanted to continue her father’s generosity by also supporting the Eye and Ear.

Jules has also been a patient of the hospital like her father, and has been assessed and treated in the Eye and Ear’s Balance Disorders and Ataxia Service. The generous donations of Jules and her father have been acknowledged on our Donor Recognition Board on the ground floor of the hospital and we are grateful for their long term support.
