Celebrate your voice

June 12, 2015

On April 16, the hospital celebrated World Voice Day – an initiative started in Brazil to increase public awareness of the value and importance of the human voice as well as remind people how to look after this extremely valuable tool.

The theme for this year was Voice: the original social media. Eye and Ear Speech Pathologist Liz Evans, says the day is an important reminder to think about our voices and how much they help us with our day-to-day living.

“Our voices are our personality, they help us express our feelings and opinions, they help us do our jobs and socialise with friends and family,” Liz said.

“We should try not to take our voices for granted and we need to look after our vocal mechanism —the way our voice is produced is complex, very delicate and can easily be affected.”
