Partnering with consumers

Partnering with consumers Consumers discussing quality and safety at our July focus group

We seek consumer input to ensure patients and families are involved in their hospital and care.

At the hospital’s June staff forum meeting, consumer advocate Nicky Barry entertained staff with her comedy sketch ‘Will You Take this Rose?’. Nicky encouraged staff to think about how they engage with consumers. Nicky’s takeaway messages were there is no “one size fits all" way to deliver healthcare and that we should proactively reach out to our consumers.

Later in June Linda Miln, Risk and Quality Manager, ran a focus group with 14 diverse consumers. We asked what quality care and safe services means to consumers, and what type of quality and safety information they want shared by the hospital. The session was highly valuable and helped us understand the types of quality and safety indicators that are most important to consumers.
