Health service of the year

March 15, 2018

The Eye and Ear was named Large Health Service of the Year for 2017 at the prestigious Victorian Public Healthcare Awards.

Minister for Health Jill Hennessy presented the awards which recognise excellence, dedication and innovation in public healthcare.

Board Chair Dr Sherene Devanesen who accepted the award said, “As a smaller, specialist hospital, being recognised in this category as a state-wide leader is a tremendous honour.”

“It is an immensely commendable achievement and demonstrates our commitment to high quality, effective and efficient care.”

The award-win was preceded by some excellent results when we were independently audited against the 10 National Safety and Quality in Healthcare Standards.

The hospital was successfully reaccredited until December 2020 and awarded 9 highly sought after ‘Met with merit’ ratings relating to governance and consumer engagement. The surveyor’s feedback highlighted our positive culture and noted that we live and breathe our values: Integrity, Care, Excellence and Teamwork.

CEO Mark Petty says, “Outstanding results such as these are a result of the commitment of all our staff to provide excellence in patient-centred care.”
