Vital PPE donations arrive at the Eye and Ear

During this challenging time we were very grateful for some good news to come our way this week!

A donation of masks and 1000 isolation gowns was donated to the Hospital, thanks to the great work and generosity of MedFamily and the AuStar Group. MedFamily is a group of over 300 people, many healthcare workers themselves, from the Melbourne Chinese community.

An Eye and Ear anaesthetist, Junkeat Chan and his wife, Lin Lin are part of the MedFamily organisation, and have been working hard to secure vital Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) stock. The group also undertook fundraising to cover the shipping costs of the much-needed supplies to Melbourne. As per the requirements for hospital use, all of the equipment has gone through a thorough approval process, which includes sign off by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

Stock of PPE is at a critical shortage for most healthcare providers at the moment, so this donation has provided a big boost to our limited supplies.

The community spirit behind the donation is evident, with children from the MedFamily group attaching drawings to the boxes thanking hospital staff for the work they are doing – a nice reminder to healthcare professionals that their work is appreciated by people of all ages.

We were truly grateful for the generosity of both MedFamily and the AuStar Group, to assist with keeping our staff safe, so that we can continue to care for our patients.
