Statement on marriage equality

The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital Executive and Board support marriage equality.

The Eye and Ear Executive and Board believes in inclusion, supports diversity, and recognises the rights of the LGBTIQ community and believes all Australians should have the same rights as the broader community to have their relationship recognised under the Marriage Act.

At the Eye and Ear we are committed to four core values: integrity, care, teamwork and excellence. Our value of care means we treat patients with respect, are compassionate, thoughtful and responsive to their needs and sensitive to diversity.

As such we are committed to providing a safe, compassionate and supportive environment free of prejudice and discrimination for all our staff and patients. We acknowledge that there will be many opinions during this discussion and we encourage our staff and patients to demonstrate respect and kindness towards each other – now and always.

We recognise that some of our patients and staff may feel vulnerable at this time and encourage those who need support to reach out to those services that offer assistance at the Eye and Ear and elsewhere.
