To provide a structured program that supports the development of Graduate RNs into competent practicing nurses. With a focus on enhancing skills and knowledge necessary for providing safe patient care and working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Overview of the Program
12-month program
Two streams offered – Medical/Surgical and Perioperative
Graduate Nurses will rotate through three of the below departments for 4 months each rotation.

Clinical Support
When you start your employment at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, you will attend a 4-day comprehensive orientation program. This includes an introduction to ophthalmic and ear, nose, throat (ENT) nursing. Periop graduates will attend 5 days orientation.
In each clinical area you will be supernumerary for a specific period based on both your needs and those of the clinical area.
Each clinical area has a Clinical Nurse Educator and a Clinical Support Nurse who will support your learning and transition to working independently. There is also a dedicated Graduate Nurse Coordinator who will support you in your transition into the workforce. The Eye and Ear provide a preceptorship model, where experienced Registered Nurses offer additional support, on a shift-to-shift basis.
Study Days/Continuing Professional Development
4 study days – includes specialty and general nursing topics
Mandatory and professionally recommended courses, workplace learning modules. Some include practical components.
Regular unit in-service education
Graduate specific debrief sessions over the year
Graduate identified SMART goals to work on over each rotation

Video Interviews for all suitable candidates will be scheduled by the PMCV from 10am Monday 6th July- 5pm Thursday 9th
The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital will conduct separate face-to-face interviews with candidates, once we have reviewed the online interviews.
Face to face interviews will be conducted between Wednesday August 12th– Thursday August 27th.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital cannot accept applications from outside the GNMP allocation and placement service match conducted by the PMCV.
We will take your preferences into account, but cannot guarantee a rotation in preferred departments.
