COVID-19: Patient and Visitor Updates

March 25, 2020

Patient and staff safety is our number one priority at the Eye and Ear. To help protect you, and manage the outbreak of COVID-19, we have introduced new measures to the hospital, including some restrictions on visitors and visiting hours.

For patients/visitors attending outpatient appointments, elective surgeries, or visiting the Emergency Department:

  • If possible, it is preferred that patients come alone to the hospital. If a carer/support person is needed, this is restricted to one person.
  • Please do not accompany a patient to the Eye and Ear if you are experiencing at least one of the following symptoms: fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath and/or have been overseas in the past 14 days; or in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19.
  • If accompanying a friend or family member for day surgery, it is requested that you leave the hospital and only return when you receive a phone call from our staff to advise that they are ready for discharge.

For patients/ visitors on wards:

  • We are restricting visitors to our wards. Partners OR carers are still welcome, however, there is a limit of one visitor per patient, per day.
  • Visits will be limited to a maximum of 1 hour.  We respectfully ask that other family members and friends do not visit at this time.
  • We ask that partners OR carers do not accompany or visit patients if they are experiencing at least one of the following symptoms: fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath and/or have been overseas in the past 14 days; or in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19.

When you arrive at the hospital, you will be greeted at the entrance by a member of our staff who will take your temperature; request that you sanitise your hands; and ensure that you are fit to enter.

During your visit to the hospital we ask that you follow the physical distancing guidelines in waiting rooms and other areas, and allow distance between you and others. Please also clean your hands regularly using the hand hygiene stations that are located throughout the hospital.

This is a challenging time for everyone. Help us to keep you safe, and provide the treatment you need, by following the hospital guidelines, and respecting the measures we have put in place.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your appointment, please email info@eyeandear.org.au. Alternatively, you can call 9929 8500, however, please note that we are experiencing a higher than normal volume of calls at the moment, and you may have to wait to speak with one of our staff.
