Clinical teaching at The Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital encompasses both undergraduate and postgraduate education in the areas of ophthalmology, ENT, general practice, emergency medicine, optometry, orthoptics and audiology.

The Clinical School is responsible for the management of clinical teaching within the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital.

The Hospital offers 5th year medical students the opportunity to undertake specialist electives in ophthalmology and otolaryngology.

All applicants must apply to the Clinical school in writing, indicating their preferred period/ block of dates – our preference is to provide blocks of 2-4 week duration.

Upon receipt of each request the Clinical School will indicate whether the applicant’s preferred dates are available – a maximum of 3 students are admitted at any one time. If the applicant’s preferred dates are unavailable, alternative dates are provided for consideration.

When confirmation of the elective are received, the applicant must provide the Clinical School with a letter of recommendation from the Dean of their medical/ clinical school in support of their application.
