Guest Services roles at Australia’s friendliest health service
Already eye care in Australia costs more than coronary heart disease, stroke, arthritis and depression. And whilst vision or hearing loss isn’t life-threatening, every aspect of our lives depends on our eyes and ears.
It’s a fact. Our community is ageing and in the next 15 years the rate of eye disease will have doubled and the prediction is that one in four people will suffer hearing loss by 2050 .
The role of the Eye and Ear will be pivotal in preventing and addressing this level of demand for eye and ear health services.
How do volunteers help?
Being faced with losing one of our most precious gifts – sight or hearing, can be a stressful and worrying time. Community members of all ages – trained volunteers – can help calm and reassure community members having treatment at the Eye and Ear.
What do you do?
Friendly guest services volunteers meet, greet and guide patients and family members to their appointments. Our East Melbourne CBD fringe based health centre is small in comparison to other acute health services and has a family feeling. Through your helpful approach and ‘nothing is too hard’ attitude you will chat to patients, answer frequently asked questions and simply be there if someone is in need of a friendly word.
Register your interest
We are recruiting now for our new Guest Services volunteer team. Successful candidates will receive excellent training in a positive volunteer environment. You will learn more about the wonders of eye and ear treatments, latest research and health tips, and also meet some memorable people.
Skills and Experience
Previous experience in volunteering or customer service would be helpful, but is not essential. You will have a ‘can do’ approach and comfortable working within your defined and supported volunteer role description.
Flexible shifts, training and support
There are 2 and 4 hour shifts available. We offer in service training, with Volunteer training, updates and skills refreshers. When accepted on our program, we ask you complete a minimum 10 shifts and as we are a public hospital, there is a pre-service police check. We recognise your efforts with a lunch or coffee voucher and a daily ‘thank you’, and more. You will gain satisfaction from assisting our patients and their ‘good news’ stories.
If this sounds like the volunteer challenge you are after, come to one of our upcoming morning or early evening Info Sessions to learn more.
