Street party fun in April!
April 7, 2013
The Eye and Ear hospital held our 150th anniversary community street party event on Sunday 7 April, with hundreds of community members, staff and their families enjoying a day of fun family entertainment.
The festivities officially began with a performance from the Chinese Masonic Society Lion Dancers, followed with the Mordialloc Jazz Orchestra and later the Melbourne Chinese Choir and the Divine Divas.
Visitors were able to give the guide dogs a pat, thanks to Guide Dogs Victoria and enjoy a variety of food and homemade goods for sale - including locally produced artwork from our neighbours, The Victorian Artists' Society.
Our partners and colleagues were also there to help celebrate, with Bionic Vision Australia, the Hearing CRC, Vision2020, Vision Australia, Melbourne University, CERA, the Bionics Institute and VicDeaf hosting information stalls.
Guided tours were held throughout the day and proved extremely popular, with spots filling up early. Eye and Ear staff led groups to key areas of the hospital, including areas not normally open to the public. Anyone who missed out on a tour will have another chance to get a look behind the scenes in July during our Open House event.
Guests were also able to experience blind cricket, thanks to demonstrations and workshops from The Victorian Blind Cricket Association.
