The 2010 Gerard Crock Lecture
Seeing is believing: the challenge and promise of the Bionic Eye
This exciting lecture will be delivered by Professor Robyn Guymer who will reflect on the research challenges of developing a bionic eye and the promise it holds for restoring sight.
Professor Guymer is an internationally recognised AMD specialist and is the lead clinician-researcher working with Bionic Vision Australia (BVA), a group of world-leading Australian researchers working to develop an Australian bionic eye. She holds concurrent positions as a medical retinal consultant at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, head of the Macular Research Unit at the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA), deputy head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Melbourne.
CERA has been located within the Eye and Ear Hospital since its inception in 1996. The two organisations enjoy a close working relationship, which is essential for the continuous improvement of clinical care and the development of new treatments for eye disease.
This annual public lecture honours the memory and contribution of Professor Gerard Crock AO (1929-2007), Australia's first Professor of Ophthalmology.
